Mustard Battered Fried Fish

Mustard Battered Fried Fish

Not often do people fry their fish with mustard, I get it. One thing is for sure, any day is the perfect day for fish. So why not try a different approach to your ordinary fried fish. You would want to show off to your friends, and family that you have a  Mustard Battered Fried Fish recipe good enough for any day of the week.

prep

First we’re going to cut the fish into slices. I bought a large 1.5 lb Cod fish. Rinse fish, then pat dry. Generously sprinkle the fish with olive oil, salt and pepper. Set aside until mustard marinade is ready.

Mustard prep

In a large bowl or a large zip lock bag. Combine the mustard, and thyme. Mix all ingredients making sure the fish is well coated. Add lemon zest along with juices from the lemon. Allow to marinate from 30 minutes up to 3 hours. I chose to marinate my fish for 3 hours so the taste would be more flavorful.

I recall eating Mustard Battered Fried Chicken at a friends home and falling in love with the tangy tasting, but very tender meat, so I decided to use the same method and apply it to Fish. My fish of choice was Cod, but any white fish will do; Tilapia, bass, whiting, or catfish.

The mustard batter is used to hold the breading on the fish, along with making the fish tender, and juicy while it cooks. You won’t  taste the mustard after the fish is cooked so you don’t have to worry about the vinegary flavor that mustard tends to have. The taste of mustard can range from tangy to spicy so choose your mustard wisely. Luckily this recipe has all of those flavors and then some. The fish comes out succulent, delicious, flaky, and to top all that goodness it’s super easy to make.
